A refuge in a busy city

This large attractive church, with its quiet, peaceful churchyard, is a refuge from busy Leicester. It is one of five surviving from the medieval town, with a tower intriguingly sited at its north-east corner.

Built from the twelfth to nineteenth centuries, it is one of the oldest churches in the Leicester, situated near to the old North Gate into the City. The West doorway is a delight of Norman zig-zag patterns, a richly carved thirteenth-century font, a remarkable parish clock from 1620 above the South porch doorway, along with corbel heads of lepers who would view a service via a squint in the West wall alongside the doorway.

Currently the church is hosting the Van Gogh Immersive Experience, a 360 sound and light show celebrating the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh.

This church costs £2500 a year to maintain. Please make a contribution by texting 'LEI' to 70970 donate £5 or 70191 to donate £10. Thank you for your support
