A gentleman's folly in a beautiful Thames-side setting

This stunning church was built in the 1760s by Solicitor-General Simon Harcourt as part of the landscaped park for Nuneham Park House.

Built to a classical design, with a gleaming dome and six slender columns, the church is as magnificent as its setting overlooking the Thames.

Inside, All Saints is a monument to wealth and taste, with Italian fittings, magnificent memorial sculptures and busts. Look for the child among the bluebells - a beautiful and moving lifesize memorial.

  • Access information

    If you are driving follow signs to Global Retreat car park. Continue on foot following signs to the house. Continue past the front of the house through a small pedestrian archway and then up the grass slope in front of you.  It is approximately 200m approx the nearest road on the estate. Access is across grass parkland at the top of a steep slope to the west portico with a shallow step up to a level porch and nave.

    This church benefits from being located in a stunning setting. The domed roof adds to the amazing acoustics of All Saints and previous uses included intimate concerts and music recordings. The maximum capacity including performers, volunteers and staff is 120. 

    Due to its historic nature it is worth noting that All Saints' Church has no electricity, toilets or running water. There may be an option to talk to the nearby Global Retreat regarding facilities. There is a private car park nearby.

    6 miles south east of Oxford; in centre of Nuneham Courtenay village, take access road (west) off A4074 to the Global Retreat Centre.
