An unspoilt Medieval atmosphere

St Mary's is set on a hillside, below the Chiltern escarpment but above the new village stretching along the valley floor. The building dates from the thirteenth- and fourteenth-centuries. It has a tall tower, a long nave and a chancel with beautifully carved capitals.

Its interior includes handsome carving on the Norman font from an earlier church, numerous medieval tiles, fine sixteenth and seventeenth-century woodwork and eighteenth-century wallpaintings of a Royal Arms, Ten Commandments and Lord's Prayer above the chancel arch. The gentle nineteenth-century restoration has left an unspoiled medieval atmosphere.
