A tiny rural gem
The church of St Peter lies deep in the country in the hills above the river Mole.
A creaking medieval door opens into a charming interior, with a panelled oak roof, carved pulpit, reading desk and beautiful painted texts. Above the pews, the 24 hat pegs are a reminder of the congregation's size - the church holds no more than 40.
On a sunny day, pretty windows scatter light on the rough, limewashed walls. There is a fifteenth-century font and pretty Victorian tiles.

Access information
St Peter's is accessed down a lane to Satterleigh Barton farm (a wooden finger post points the way). Once you reach the farmyard, cross the yard heading right and you will see the church straight ahead. Exit the farmyard and park on the concrete track by the farmhouse wall.
Enter the churchyard via 7 steps from the farmyard track or up 2 steps onto a concrete path by the church wall. Enter the south gate onto a cobbled path to the porch. Cobbles continue into the porch without a step although the doorway is only 73 cms wide.
The photo below shows the entrance to Satterleigh Barton farm. Follow this track to reach Satterleigh St Peter's church.
