Discover how we care for and conserve historic paintings and Royal Arms
The majority of today’s survivals of Royal Arms are Georgian and Victorian, but we are lucky enough to hold precious examples from as early as the 12th - early 13th century.
However; it was not until the second half of the 20th century that their significance came to be appreciated for their historical and artistic qualities and as isolated survivors of once-ubiquitous heraldic paintings.
