Hilltop church in a peaceful setting
Spend some time in St Mary's and you will be richly rewarded. Originally built by nuns, the church now consists of a thirteenth-century nave and chancel, while the transepts and flint tower are nineteenth-century additions.
Highlights include the remains of thirteenth-century wall paintings, including one of St Christopher. Also search out the graves of two commanders of the British Army - General Henry 'Hangman'; Hawley, who defeated Bonny Prince Charlie at Culloden, and Field Marshal Lord Alanbrooke, Churchill's closest military advisor during the Second World War.

Level entrance on gravel path from road through churchyard (not CCT). Limited parking in adjacent lay by for 10 cars. West door 105 cms wide, nave aisle 140 cms wide. Two transepts with central aisle 104 cms wide. North transept leads to NW door 75 cms wide. Box and open wooden pews with seating capacity of 100 (including transepts). South and North galleries have seating for 30 each. West gallery kept locked and not used. Total seating capacity 160. 2 steps to altar. Ceiling ht 7.1 m. Gallery rails in N and S galleries 94 cms. West gallery only 72 cms.

Facilities & Hire
St Mary's Church is available to hire for events and is a unique and beautiful venue.
It is also available for wedding blessings and funeral services.
Due to its historic nature the church has no running water or toilet facilities and limited electricity (solar power). There is limited parking.
The maximum capacity of St Mary's Church is 160 including performers, staff and volunteers.
In the past St Mary's has hosted art and photography exhibitions, flowr fesivals as well as community celebrations and occasional services.
